          What is Cholestrol?
Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like substance that's in your bloodstream and your body's cells. It's important because it's an essential component of cell membranes, some vitamins and some hormones. You need cholesterol, and your body naturally makes as much as you need. Your liver produces most of your body's cholesterol - about 1,000 milligrams a day. The rest comes from the food you eat.

Cholesterol is part of a healthy body, but too much cholesterol, especially "LDL" or "bad" cholesterol, can pose health risks such as heart attack and stroke.1
